    Why we are building Ascensie

A small team runs on five programs that know nothing about each other. Here is what goes wrong in the gaps, what we do about it, and where the product actually stands.

Ask five people on a small team where a customer's details live, and you get five answers. The billing address is in the accounting package. The last conversation is in the mailbox of whoever had it. The quote is in a folder on a drive, the meeting is in a calendar, and what was actually agreed is in the head of someone who is off today.

That is not sloppiness. It is what happens when every program does one thing well and knows nothing about the rest.

The problem lives between the tools, not inside them

Your mail client is fine. Your accounting package is fine. Whatever you use to send quotes is probably fine too. What is missing is the memory that should connect them.

So work piles up in places where there should not be any work. You type the same address three times. You go looking for the email where that discount was agreed. You do not know whether a colleague already called this customer, so you call anyway, or you do not call at all. A quote that has been sitting unanswered for two weeks asks for attention nowhere, because there is no place where it could.

It is a problem that grows quietly. With three customers you barely notice. With two hundred it is most of your day.

One workplace with a shared memory

Ascensie is our attempt to make that connection. Contacts, companies, conversations, quotes, invoices, appointments and your company website live in one place, and that place remembers what happens between them.

In practice: an incoming email attaches itself to the contact who sent it. A form on your website creates a contact and drops the conversation into the same shared inbox as your regular mail. An approved quote becomes an invoice without anyone retyping a line. An appointment shows up on the customer's timeline, right next to the email that led to it.

None of those steps is remarkable on its own. Together they save an hour a day, and more importantly they remove the moment where information gets lost.

You switch on what you use

What we did not want to build is a program that pushes everything at you at once. A construction firm has no use for a campaign module. A consultancy does not sell tickets.

So Ascensie is built from modules you turn on and off per account: CRM, shared inbox, pipelines, calendar, meeting notetaker, payments, events, marketing, sites, forms, chat and an assistant. A module that is off is genuinely gone: not in the menu, not in the settings, and the screens behind it are closed on the server as well. You do not start with thirteen things. You start with the three you use today.

What we deliberately do not do

We do not build mailbox connections through Google or Microsoft. We had one and took it out. Each provider wants its own approval process, repeated every year, and the result is an integration that breaks the moment that provider changes its mind. Instead you receive mail on a subdomain of your own domain. That works with any provider, and it stays yours.

We also do not promise automation that runs your business for you. The assistant can look things up and prepare work, but anything that touches money or a customer relationship asks you first.

And we do not put numbers on this site that we cannot show you. No customer counts, no uptime promises, no certifications we do not hold.

    Where this actually stands

Ascensie is in beta. That is not a polite word for unfinished, and it is not a marketing label either. It means the parts that exist work and are used daily, that more is being added, and that right now we are mostly looking for people who will use it and tell us where it grates.

Taking part costs nothing at the moment and there is no waiting list. You create an account at app.ascensie.com/auth/sign-up, with your email address or with your Google account, and you can start straight away.

What we ask in return is your honest opinion, especially about the things that did not work the way you expected. Those are exactly the things we can no longer see ourselves.
